My 4 favourite Android Apps

WARNING TO READER: This blog presents the personal views of the author. While reading, please keep in mind the title which explicitly states ‘favourite” and not best!

For the last few months, I have been the proud owner of a Nexus 5 phone. My explorations have led me to discover thousands of apps in the Play Store. Here, I hope to share with friends, especially the android phone owners) five of my favourite apps -:-

1. Social:

SNAPCHAT

I can almost see many of you wondering why the winning social app for me is not Messenger, WhatsApp or Viber.  I have found SnapChat, a photo messaging application, to be most relevant. It allows users to take and share images and videos. Users can view Snaps (selfies and normal photos) for a window of up to 10 seconds only. Should you want to keep the photo for future purposes, you must take a screenshot. On another note, it’s surprising how many users don’t know to take screenshots. One can also edit one’s Snapsterpieces (that’s what they are called :P) and make the images more appealing / relevant with scribbles, filters and plain text.

While some may question this app’s usability and purpose, I find this platform of social interaction more personal and fun! It is certainly more creative too. No longer are two people talking about topics from far apart, they can view each other’s facial expressions. Have a new hairstyle? Take a selfie and send it to your friend. Saw an adorable cat? Send to your cat-lover friend with a cute expression. Bored? Take a snap and cover it with yours scribbles and make the other side laugh at the sight. SnapChat has made conversations with people much more entertaining. What makes it more appealing is that it free from the Play Store. And the new update also allows real-time face-to face conversations.

For all those people, wondering whether why they should download this app when they aren’t as photogenic as Brad Pitt or/Angelina Jolie, consider this: you don’t have to take a selfie and your friends already know how you look so it doesn’t really matter.

2. Games:

PLANT VS ZOMBIES 2

Such a great game! To all those newbies, PvZ 2 is the outstanding sequel to the best-seller PvZ where you are in charge of the deliriously Crazy Dave’s garden fighting zombies who want to eat your brains! Sounds weird? Well it may initially, but I will guarantee that you will be addicted in no time. The variety of plants ranging from the ordinary PeaShooter to the stinky Onion, each with their characteristic offensive attack makes the game more interesting. Better still is the array of zombies, ranging from the Disco Zombie to the Pirate Zombie who wear objects from cones to coffins and wield items such as wands to rockets! There are only 8 slots available per round so you have to choose carefully. At the end of each level, you have a very unusual boss fight. PvZ 2 adds to this with its cool graphics and layout, plethora of monsters and plants and themed Worlds. In each game, one can purchase upgrades from Dave himself. The humorous story outline involving Dave breaks the chaotic atmosphere. Certainly give this game a try.
NOTE: This is a very heavy game file (~200 MB) and easily causes the Nexus 5 to overheat within 10 minutes due to its heavy graphics. Shouldn’t be much of a problem though for other phones hopefully.

3. Utility:

 CLEAN MASTER

Clean Master is a simple yet thorough Android optimization app designed to clean junk files, regain free storage, boost memory, enhance speed, and secure your device from malicious apps and vulnerabilities. It allows you to boost your phone’s overall capability in no time as the 1-touch optimize button clears megabytes of useless data instantaneously. This app also has a clean and appealing interface and occasionally warns you about junk file accumulation. It can delete personal chats and conversations as well if you so desire and provide instructions for the same.  The app has a 4.7 / 5 rating on the Play Store, so it has been proven to be considerably useful.

4. Calculations:

TECHCALC

It is a calculator, equation solver, binary converter and graphing utility in one app. It can handle thousands of statistical formulae and yet is simple enough for beginners – a must for all you people who need a good calculator. The graphing utility allows functions like integration and helps find areas and complete other tasks. This app even includes a Periodic table! While I haven’t explored all of its features, it seems to be a nifty device for all people who engage in complex or long calculations.

So long then! I have a game to finish. 🙂
